9 Places to Make Flashcards Online

Midterms are coming up , so I thought it would be the perfect time to write up an article on one of the most popular ways to study. Flashcards.

Students have been using flashcards to study since notecards were invented, and for good reason too, they are a very effective study tool. Paper flashcards can be hard to keep up with though, and not to mention, they are pretty wasteful. Making these flashcards can also be pretty time consuming. There is a better way to create flashcards though. It involves making flashcards online and sharing them with other students.

So get out out of the Stone Age, ditch the paper notecards, and check out these great ways to make flashcards online.

Certainly it is a very quick and better way of doing flashcards,
however, the vision of a designer like me, using Photoshop would be much more
    easy. Thanks for sharing.

Without spaced repetition, all these flashcards will be good for are a one or two week cram. Anki, for example, would help these cards stick in your head for a longer period of time.

I’ve used flashcards db for some time now and use can choose between both the leitner system and spaced repetition using it. I also use Anki for separate learning – also good.

I love quizlet. I have been using it for quite some time now. You can select the subject of your choice. You can make your own flashcards or search for an existing one.

For me flashcards have been an essential study tool since I started Kindergarten. Whether I was learning the ABC’s or Spanish, they were a great help. It’s so great to see that even with advanced technology flashcards are still being used.

I wrote my very own flashcard website since even the best website listed here isn’t up to my standard. Even after I checked out these sites and watch them grow with the latest technology, their sites are still not on par with my cheaply hosted website. Why is it? My site was written for me to USE. Theirs is written by paid programmers made to look pretty, but the quality underneath is still the same.

Since I can’t afford a text-to-speech engine, what did I do? I allow user to insert one word code into their flashcards. This one code activates the flashcard engine to create a dot on the screen. If the user want to click on the dot it’ll open up another webpage that takes them to an external site where they can check out multiple definitions of that word. At that other site, they can hear how the word is pronounced. (I am not into vocabulary words, but what the heck!)

Before I go, I’ll say one more thing, I can embed multiple flashcards inside one flashcard. Think of the implications. Instead of juggling with 10-50 flashcards, you’re handling 1. I am telling you this to let you know how far ahead my flashcard site is of everyone else. I am trying to keep everything top secret. My site is finished. But I guess I am not into running a site for other to use (too stressful plus too poor), so I have blocked off the signup screen.

Most of the features user have begged for nearly a decade from these other sites, have already been finished ages ago on my site. Think what you want in their site, I probably already have it and using it:) Plus, my site was designed touch enabled from the very beginning, so it acts like a web app and can run on mobile devices such as the iPad and iPhone without any alteration.

People, screen real estate is very important. I see lots of flashcard apps for mobile devices, yet I still see them as inferior products. People don’t realize that when they’re being advertise it is usually a word and it’s foreign language counterpart. Why? Screen real estate! You can fit only so much in a small screen. I see pinching here and there and they forget that all that pinching actually waste time.

Anyways, good luck to whatever you guys and gals use for studying. Maybe one day, I’ll reopen the signup screen when I have a better server and someone else to maintain my site for me.

Easy Notecards, http://www.easynotecards, is my favorite. You can play a matching game or take a quiz using the data from the cards.
