Ramen noodles have been a long time favorite for college students. This is probably due to the fact that they are very cheap, very easy to prepare, and tasty. The problem for most students is though, they can only get their hands on a couple brands of ramen limiting them to only a few flavors. The variety is very limited, especially if you live nowhere near an Asian Supermarket.
This is where a new company called Ramenbox comes in to fill you up on the ramen you have always longed to taste. Ramenbox.com recently launched early January of this year, and they are already making a splash in the world of ramen noodles.
What is Ramenbox?
To put it simply, it’s “The Worlds First Customizeable Box of Ramen.” This is how it works. You first pick out a box (they have two options right now, one with 20 slots & one with 40 slots). After you decide on the size of the box you want, you can then begin to select the brands & flavors of ramen to stuff your box with. They have a very big selection, many of which I didn’t even know existed. Each package of ramen fills up one slot, with some bigger packs taking up 2 or 3 slots. You choose from a wide variety of noodles to fill up your box. It’s that simple.
What I Like About it.
First off, the website is very easy to use and really user friendly. It displays a live feed of all the ramen you currently have in your box as you are filling it up. This live feed is very helpful if you decide to add more of a flavor or get rid of a flavor all together. It does all of this in real time, with no annoying page reload. As much as I liked their website, it was the ramen noodle flavors that really got me excited.
With flavors like, Spicy Tomato, Ichiban Beef, BBQ Chicken, I had a difficult time deciding on what to put in my box. I ended up getting a huge variety, something like 8 or 9 different flavors. I believe this is the best approach if you are new to the world of ramen because, you never know what you are going to like. For example one of my favorites is the Paldo Green Tea, which I just randomly threw in my box because it sounded exotic. Although it is tough to choose between all the flavors, the user reviews will generally point you in the right direction.
Another really cool thing that Ramenbox does is, they send you a few sets of chopsticks to slurp your noodles up with. Not only do they send you the chopsticks, but they also send along a nice looking sticker. (I’m a sucker for these kind of things. I love getting little freebies, even if it is only a sticker).

What I Don’t Like About it.
As I’m sitting here thinking really hard, I just can’t seem to think of anything that I do not like about Ramenbox.com. But if I had to pick one thing, it would be that I wish they had a bigger variety of “Ramenboxes” instead of only the two sizes. I believe a miniature box that holds 5 slots would be a great way for new ramen eaters to sample some quality ramen before dropping $26 (shipped) on a box of ramen.
To Wrap it Up.
Not only are ramen noodles a quick, money saving meal, but they are a great way to experience another culture. Ramenbox provides you with authentic noodles from Asian countries, which taste a lot better than the ramen noodles most Americans are use to eating. So next time you are thinking about stocking your dorm room with Ramen noodles, be sure to check out Ramenbox.com for a great selection of quality Ramen.
