Schoolhouse: The Perfect App for Students

Schoolhouse: The Perfect App for Students

Keeping up with assignments used to be my biggest problem. I would always forget to bring my agenda to class and lose the papers that I scribbled down my homework on.  My problems were solved one day when I came across a  powerful app called Schoolhouse3.

What is Schoolhouse?

Schoolhouse 3 is an academic planning application for mac. (Sorry PC users, you are really missing out on this one).  It is a quick and easy way to manage everything that you need to get done for all of your classes.

It is like an agenda on steroids.

List of Features

  • Organize all of your assignments by course.
  • Change the color & style of tasks.
  • Automatic grade calculation.
  • Use smart notebooks to keep up with assignments.
  • Assign priority levels to tasks.
  • Sync Schoolhouse using MobileMe.
  • Attach files and documents to your assignments.
  • Access websites within app.
  • …and much more.

What I Like About Schoolhouse

Schoolhouse was specifically designed for college students to help manage all of their schoolwork. The design has a very familiar feel to it and is organized much like iTunes and iCal.  It is by far the best app that I have used to keep up with all of my schoolwork.

I can easily organize my tasks within specific courses and assign levels of priority to each task.  Schoolhouse even gives me the option to attach documents to an assignment. This feature is extremely useful when writing a research paper with many pages and resources.  I can also save and browse my School’s website within the application.

Another feature I like is Smart Notebooks. They allow me to keep up with what is due soon, what I’ve recently completed, and which tasks are most important.  I am even able to create my own Notebooks to keep track of things like class projects and extra credit assignments.

How it is Helpful

Like I said in the introduction, I have never been good at keeping up with assignments using my agenda.  Schoolhouse solves this problem by allowing me to easily type in an assignment for a course, along with the due date and details about it.  It is a much easier system to manage than using a traditional paper agenda.  I also always have my computer with me when I’m in class, so it is very easy to add new assignments to Schoolhouse.  I no longer forget when an important assignment is due.

Schoolhouse also allows me to view my assignments in a way that I have never been able to.  I can now view them in an organized manner, and choose between calendar view and list view.  I am also able to filter things like task priority and task status.

It is things like these, as well as other great features that make Schoolhouse the perfect app for students.

Conclusion

If you prefer to use the old paper and pen method of doing things, then maybe Schoolhouse is not for you.  But if you are the type of person that loves to find new and innovative ways of getting things done, then you should definitely give Schoolhouse a test run.  You can try out the demo for free with a limit of 20 tasks.  It is $14 dollars to purchase, and well worth the money.

How do you keep up with your tasks and assignments?

    Great Article Dan,

Schoolhouse looks like a great tool for students. I might try it here in the future. It will be hard to break away from iCal, but I will weight the pros and cons and see how it goes.

I appreciate it Jay. I like the app a lot, and it really helped me remember my assignments last semester. If you try the demo or anything, let me know how you like it. If you don't mind.

I started using Schoolhouse for a bit, but actually realised it could be easily replaced by a GTD app like Things or The Hit List. One less place to look for things.

I haven't tried things or thehitlist due to them both costing around $50, which is a little steep for most colege students.

I at times use Microsoft Word or Excel and now I just started placing post-it directly on my computer to keep track of things. I am a PC user so I can't use this app, but now that I know something like this exists I am going to find out if there is a similar one for PC. Thanks!

Great article man, I just downloaded the app and I was wondering, the limited trial of 20 tasks, does that mean, 20 up and running tasks at the same time or 20 tasks cumulative? Thanks.
