As much as I enjoy getting schoolwork done as quickly as possible, there are times when it is both necessary and beneficial to slow down and take my time.
I have found that slowing my roll while reading, studying, and doing homework makes a huge difference on how well I retain the information. This works because slowing down the learning process automatically gives my brain more time to digest all of the information I’m feeding it.

How It’s Helped Me
Although I often blaze through my schoolwork, I have recently taken a slower approach while studying. This has helped me in numerous ways.
- Able to go through notes/slides less times. This works because I spend more time on each page, fully understanding it before moving on.
- Memorize more information the first time through my notes.
- Take time to thoroughly and completely answer questions.
- Allows me to fully understand and connect ideas and notes.
Apply It
This method can easily be adapted to, and once mastered, has the power to cut back your study time. I know you’re probably asking, “how?” The concept is simple. By fully understanding an idea before moving on, you eliminate the need to cycle through your notes multiple times.
The art of taking your time and being mindful of what you’re doing can be applied to other areas of your life as well. Always be sure to take your time at whatever you are doing and get the most out of it.
What are some methods you use to slow things down?
